Beyond the scriptural canon, history itself testifies. Josephus recorded Christ in the Antiquities of the Jews. Tacitus documented the execution under Pontius Pilate in his Annals. Pliny the Younger wrote to Emperor Trajan about early Christians singing hymns to Christ “as to a god.” Suetonius noted the expulsion of Jews from Rome over disturbances at the instigation of “Chrestus.”

The Apostolic Fathers stand as the earliest post-biblical witnesses—the Didache, a first-century manual of Christian practice; 1 Clement, written from Rome to Corinth around 96 AD; and the Gospel of Thomas, preserving sayings of Jesus in Coptic. Scriptures brings these voices together, searchable and annotatable alongside the sacred canon.
